If you like moving melodies, expressive sustained notes with tasty vibrato, shred but not `excess shred`, then this album is for you. Containing mainly instrumental songs (but also the two vocal songs hold their ground), Nick`s CD is the perfect album to change the mind of your friends who believe that "shred/instrumental guitar is soulless". It`s difficult to single out a couple of songs - all of them are solidly composed and beautifully executed. My personal favorite right now is "Valiant One", but yesterday it was "Daybreak" and I know tomorrow it will be another one. Definitely to buy, you won`t be disappointed.

Nick Layton`s CD features great phrasing, vibrato, melody and songwriting. The music is played exceptionaly well, with a great balance of chops and feel. In short, "Storming The Castle" is a complete package that will not dissapoint any fan of instrumental music in the style of Vinnie Moore, Yngwie Malmsteen, Andy Larocque and John Sykes.

The most simple way for me to put it is Nick Layton plays what I want to hear! A combination of tasty and shreddy and his vibrato is one of my favorites. Compositionally the songs are excellent--they are not just backdrops for mindless lead guitar. This cd is great, and it`s been on constant rotation in my cd player since I got it. You won`t be disappointed!
